Yup, you read that right. My first short story was published by Quarter Castle Publishing. It’s one of several short stories in the book to remember the 100th anniversary of the Halifax Explosion.
The book is called The Coldest December. My story is called “Silenced Memories”.
You can learn more about the book on the publisher’s website.
If you go to my short story page, you’ll be able to read the first few paragraphs of the story. I hope you like it.
Inspiration to write comes from many sources. It can be a picture, a smell or a phrase I heard in passing. It may be an image conjured in my head as I imagine myself seeing through the eyes of a character.
The difficult part is acting on these inspirations. Sometimes it comes while driving, and at other times, it is while I’m chopping wood or in the middle of a coffee with a friend. I can’t act immediately on the inspiration and by the time I have a pen in my hand, the inspiration has passed and I let it leave without fighting for it to return.
But now, with winter setting in, the darkness cloaking the land more than the light, I will put effort into reclaiming those moments of inspiration.
Anyone who has visited this page in the past few years might have been in shock: I haven’t posted anything. That’s because life has a way of sticking its thick neck in my path. You’ve been there; you’ve seen it. Stopping you from getting out of life exactly what you want to put into it.
Well, time’s a tickin’. I ain’t getting’ any younger. That western rattling around in my head and on scraps of paper on the shelf in my shed out back is getting noisy and closer to the wood stove. It needs to be set free to ride the range.
As motivation, I plan to write more on this blog thing. Get my name out there. Get my story started. Get some words organized on paper that makes sense and makes people want to read it.
So here we go.
Grab your slicker and let’s head out into the storm.
I’m new here and so far there’s really no one to read this except for the odd friend or family member I bribe to stop by, so I won’t take much of your time.
What will I blog about? Damn if I know, but I guess I’ll put something here after a while.
Anyway, I’m here now. If you want to read more, hit the follow button and come back.
